How to Inspect Your Vehicle for Maintenance

BAY CITY, Mich.,– Whether you're a first-time vehicle owner or have sat behind your fair share of steering wheels, knowing when your vehicle may need maintenance can save you money and can prevent expensive repairs from arising. Learning how to inspect your vehicle for maintenance will give you the skills you need to check your oil, tire pressure, and more to ensure your vehicle achieves top performance on the road. Preventative maintenance is one of the best ways to save money with your vehicle, and checking up on the workings of your vehicle on a weekly basis will keep you prepared in the event that it may need maintenance in the future.

Checking Your Tires

How to Inspect Your Vehicle for Maintenance

Your tires, while durable, can wear down after long months of driving, reducing their tread. If your tires don't have deep grooves, they won't be able to grip the road effectively, especially in wet or muddy environments, and can greatly increase the risk of hydroplaning.

A very easy way to check your tires' tread is the popular "penny method". Place a penny face down in the center groove of your tire. If you can see most or all of Lincoln's face, your tread is too short and will require replacement. In the event that you require new tires, our tire price guarantee gives you the benefit of the doubt! If you purchase tires with us, and within 30 days of your purchase find something cheaper, we will refund you the difference!

Check Your Oil

How to Inspect Your Vehicle for Maintenance

Engine oil works to lubricate important components of your engine, allowing it to run smoothly and prevent overheating. Your oil should be replaced every 3,000-5,000 miles, or whenever your vehicle owner's manual tells you to do so. Checking it at home can give you a good idea of whether or not you'll require an oil change soon.

Pop the hood of your vehicle (while your engine is cool) and look for an oil dipstick like the one in the image above; it should be clearly labeled or stand out among the engine components. Pull the dipstick out, wipe it clean with a cloth, then insert it and pull it out again. The dipstick should have a way of indicating the level of your oil, whether it's "min" and "max" labels, or "L" (low) and "H" (high). If your oil is below the minimum level, it's time for an oil change. We offer a variety of oil change options and specials with our selection of coupons, free for you to use at your disposal!

Checking Your Coolant

How to Inspect Your Vehicle for Maintenance

Your coolant is another extremely important fluid that helps your vehicle run efficiently. Coolant helps to reduce the temperature of your engine, and without it, your engine would quickly overheat and break down. Coolant is typically replaced every 30,000 miles, or whenever your vehicle owner's manual recommends it. Checking your coolant is even easier than checking your oil level or tire tread, and can save you a lot of stress in the event that your coolant needs replacing.

After letting your engine completely cool down, pop the hood of your vehicle and locate your coolant reservoir. It should be in a large container next to your engine that is brightly colored. Locate the labels on the side of the reservoir to properly inspect the coolant's levels. If your coolant is below the minimum level, get your vehicle in for a coolant replacement right away to prevent any extensive damage to your engine or its components! Use our Graff XPress service for quick, easy, and efficient service to get your coolant replaced right away.

Checking Your Wiper Fluid

How to Inspect Your Vehicle for Maintenance

Other fluids, such as wiper fluid, are just as easily checked as coolant. Keeping your wiper fluid properly filled, regardless of the season, will allow you to remain ahead of the curve in the event of a storm or abrupt change in weather. If you've noticed your wiper fluid isn't as efficient as it once was, it may be time for a refill. Pop your hood and locate the blue wiper fluid reservoir, then refill as needed. You'll be ready to go in no time!

Wiper Replacements

How to Inspect Your Vehicle for Maintenance

If you notice your wipers "skidding" across your windshield, they may have begun to wear down after repeated usage. While this may not seem like a big deal initially, ineffective wipers can reduce your vision in the event of a storm. It's better to be safe than sorry! Wipers are very inexpensive and if you purchase them with Graff Bay City, we'll be more than happy to help you install them, free of charge!

With these handy tips, you'll be able to perform a quick and easy inspection on your vehicle in no time, just like an expert mechanic would! Now that you know how to inspect your vehicle for maintenance, your car will be in good hands if something were to happen. If your vehicle is experiencing any issues that we haven't covered, or is in need of an extra pair of eyes, feel free to schedule an appointment with us. Our friendly and attentive Service Staff will gladly take a look at your vehicle! Varieties to Try During National Hot Dog Month

BAY CITY, Mich.,– This July is National Hot Dog Month. Every year, this American all-star is honored around the world with different toppings, buns, and more. Whether you're a fan of the classic ketchup and mustard combination, a loaded Chicago dog, or a special combination of your own, there are so many delicious options to enjoy. If you're a true hot dog love, here are some famous regional varieties to try during National Hot Dog Month!

The New York

Must-Try National Hot Dog Day Styles

While hot dogs originated in Germany and were first sold at ballparks in St. Louis, the Big Apple is known worldwide for their hot dogs. In fact, the name "hot dog" came from the New York Polo Grounds on a cold Yankees game in 1901. The New York dog is recognized by its toppings: they're typically covered in sauerkraut or onions, which are occasionally dipped in chili powder, and topped off with a swizzle of spicy mustard. New York style hot dogs are hard to come across in the Mitten, but the ingredients are easy to find and you can make your own at home!

Chicago Style

Must-Try National Hot Dog Day Styles

One of the most renowned and unique hot dog styles around the globe, the Chicago dog is loaded up with toppings and carries a crazy amount of tastes. Typical Chicago dogs use poppy seed buns, which are filled with tomato slices, pickle spears, celery salt, pickled peppers, relish, lettuce, and mustard. While this may seem like a lot, the veggies, dog, and condiments all blend together to make this Windy City special a must-have in the Midwest. Try making them yourself

Danger Dog

Must-Try National Hot Dog Day Styles

Los Angeles is home to Hollywood, Venice Beach, and the infamous "Danger Dog." It earned its name from the method in which it is cooked. Danger dogs are wrapped in bacon and deep fried, and are served with a variety of toppings. Combine the deep fried, bacon-wrapped goodness of the dog with grilled onions and bell peppers, jalapeƱo peppers, ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise, then you've got yourself one dangerous hot dog. Give the recipe a try yourself if you think you're up for the challenge.

Corn Dogs

Must-Try National Hot Dog Day Styles

Originated from Texas, corn dogs can be found at carnivals, ballparks, and fairs around the country! They substitute the traditional bun for a sweet, crunchy, deep fried cornmeal casing, and are held on a stick for the eater's convenience. Dip it in mustard, ketchup, or whatever you prefer for a great classic taste! You can find corn dogs at your grocery store, ballpark, or you can make them yourself

Coney Dog

Must-Try National Hot Dog Day Styles

We saved the best for last! Not only is Michigan the best state in the union, but you can also find one of the most comforting hot dog styles at almost any coney-island type restaurant. Warm chili, tangy mustard, and fresh onions top off these all-beef dogs. Whether you're a loyalist to Lafayette or a diehard American Coney Island fan, these hot dog styles are simply unbeatable. If you're already familiar with the Detroit style, familiarize yourself with Flint's unique take on the coney dog, which substitutes the Detroit style Coney sauce with ground beef flavored with dry sauce.

From Hollywood to the Big Apple, the United States is full of different interpretations on hot dogs, each with their definition of the "best hot dog in the world". Whether you prefer your hot dog spicy, savory, or simply plain, these varieties to try during National Hot Dog Month are a great way to give your taste buds a trip around the USA! While you're out celebrating Summer and National Hot Dog Month, bring your vehicle to our Service Center for a limited-time $18.95 + tax oil change! You can also get more bang for your buck with our overstock sale, with trade-ins starting at $3,000.

How to Make Your Car Your Own

BAY CITY, Mich.,– One of the most exciting aspects of vehicle ownership is the customization. Your vehicle is uniquely yours in that you can do whatever you'd like with it, whether it's a new coat of paint, wiper blades, or even a fresh set of wheels. We're here to give you a few ideas on how to make your car your own, with tips on personalizing your vehicle and maintaining its resale value. Many of these options are fairly inexpensive and add a nice personal touch to your one-of-a-kind vehicle, from subtle accents to big statements. Get started on making your vehicle your own today!

Remove Dents and Scratches

The best way to get started on personalizing your vehicle is by performing some basic maintenance. Making your vehicle look brand new will increase its resale value and make it far more appealing to the eye. Besides taking it in for maintenance, there are a few homemade remedies you can try to remove scratches and dents. The "suction method" is used to remove dents. Wet the surface of your vehicle and the surface of a suction cup or plunger. Place the suction cup or plunger on your dent, and after a few seconds, pull the suction cup off. Repeat this process a few times to reduce the size of the dent or altogether remove it. Purchasing a scratch repair pen can be cheap and can reduce the damage of scratches on your vehicle. However, it only removes damages to the paint and surface of any scratch, so keep this in mind as you fix them up!

How to Make Your Car Your Own

Replace Your Floor Mats

Your vehicle's floor mats accumulate a lot of dust and dirt over time. While getting them shampooed can bring them back to life, frequent shampooing of your carpets and mats can be quite expensive. Instead, we recommend upgrading your old floor mats to more durable, rubber ones! Not only will they remain durable year-round, they're also extremely easy to clean and can prevent the buildup of mold from wet shoes and boots. Plus, you can customize them for your own unique personal twist! It's best to hold onto your old mats as well if you plan on reselling or trading in your vehicle. This will help uphold its full value.

Purchase Seat Covers

Whether you own a furry friend or simply have messy kids, a great way to protect your vehicle's seating from fur or uncontrollable stickiness is with some seat covers. They can add additional comfort with an extra layer of cloth and greatly improve the resale value of your vehicle. If your seats are already too damaged to salvage any repairs, you can also cover up the severity with seat covers.

Upgrade Your Sound System

While replacing your sound system may seem a little more expensive, you don't necessarily have to break the bank to update your standard system. In some instances, simply replacing the standard speakers can make a world of difference, as speakers tend to wear out after years of usage. However, if you're willing to make the investment, upgrading your speaker system can become a better long-term investment. If you end up trading in or replacing your vehicle but want to keep your upgraded speaker system, you can repurpose it to function as surround-sound speakers within your home, or add it to your new vehicle to improve its sound system.

How to Make Your Car Your Own

Get Some New Wheels

Believe it or not, wheels can make a huge difference in your vehicle's appearance. Take a look for yourself if you don't believe us! Over time, your vehicle's wheels can wear down and look extremely unsightly, with built up rust and dirt damage. Investing in a new set of wheels will improve the look of your vehicle, enhance your gas mileage, and contribute to the overall stability while driving. However, new wheels can be quite costly and are a long-term investment. You should only replace your wheels if you're looking to keep your vehicle for quite some time!

While these are just a few examples on vehicle personalization, we at Graff Bay City also carry a variety of accessories and are more than happy to help you customize your vehicle! We also offer custom graphic services to give your vehicle a new coat of paint, custom looks, and unique designs. Make sure to request any parts you may need if you want to get your tires replaced, speakers upgraded, or other personalization and we'll be more than happy to assist you every step of the way to help make your vision a reality! Now that you know how to make your car your own, it's time for you to add your own personal stamp!

Tips You Can Follow to Pick the Perfect Chevy for Your Needs

BAY CITY, Mich.,–– At Graff Bay City, it's our goal to match you up with the vehicle of your dreams. Taking the first step and deciding what kind of vehicle you want can be a daunting task. There are so many makes and models out there that might suit your needs, but how can you be sure a vehicle is right for you? When you get started on your vehicle search, here are a few tips you can follow to pick the perfect Chevy for your needs!

Tips You Can Follow to Pick the Perfect Chevy for Your Needs

Consider Your Lifestyle

One of the most important steps in choosing a vehicle is determining which type will suit your lifestyle best. Ask yourself the following questions that apply to how you will be using this vehicle for years to come. How far is your commute to and from work? Do you have any pets or children that will be in the vehicle? How many seats will you need? What types of things will you need cargo space for? Will you be using your vehicle for work? What type of climate will you be mainly driving the vehicle in? How much are you willing to pay for gas? Keep the answers to these questions in mind when you start your search!

Sort Your Options by Category

A great way to help curb your options is by sorting vehicles by class based on your needs. Keeping your needs in mind, you can sort your lifestyle into a vehicle category, whether it's a sedan, crossover vehicle, pick-up truck, or SUV. Every category or size of vehicle has specific benefits that work hand in hand with their respective lifestyles, but what you drive is up to you at the end of the day. We at Graff Bay City are more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Feel free to reach out to us for recommendations and assistance!

Research Potential Vehicles

If you've already got your sights set on a certain vehicle, take a look at some more in depth information before you go on a hunt. Our comprehensive model overview pages give you an opportunity to research potential vehicles you have in mind. You can view vehicle specs, features, inventory, and price ranges to help better influence your decision. Plus, you can download vehicle brochures for more information on technology, safety features, and more. If you're curious about any vehicles, or have any questions, our knowledgable Sales Staff will be happy to assist you with whatever you need!

Test Drive Vehicles You Like

The best way to find out if a vehicle is right for you is to get behind the wheel! Set up an appointment with us and we can get you on the road in the vehicle of your choice right away. While you're out on the road, you should test the vehicle based on your lifestyle. If you drive on highways on your commute to work, take it for a spin on a nearby freeway. If you live on a dirt road or regularly drive on one, take your potential vehicle through the backroads to see how it handles. Inspect how different functions work. Test the sound system, sit in passenger seats for comfort, and check the trunk to see how much cargo space you have to work with. When you've finally gone through all the features during your test drive, you'll know whether or not it's the one for you!

Decide to Lease or Buy

Keeping your budget in mind will help you choose between buying or leasing a vehicle. Each have their own individual pros and cons to consider, and each carry different obligations in terms of financing. While buying a new vehicle gives you complete ownership, it's important to understand the long term costs associated with doing so. Leasing a vehicle, which is a better option financially for some, may limit your driving experience more than you want. Consider researching the benefits and setbacks of buying or leasing a vehicle before you make your final decision.

Before you know it, you'll be behind the wheel on the ride of your dreams! At Graff Bay City we want to help you pick the perfect Chevy for your needs, budget, and lifestyle. So if you need any help throughout the vehicle search or the leasing/buying process, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We often run promotions for new Chevrolet vehicles, so stay tuned to us on social media and our online inventory.

Chevrolet Keeps Families Safe with the new 2018 Chevrolet Equinox

BAY CITY, Mich.,––Schools out for Summer in the Bay area and the kids are out and about enjoying the warm, sunny weather. One of the biggest concerns for parents in Bay City is the safety of their children, even within your own yard. Did you know, out of the 210 fatalities and 15,000 injuries from backover crashes 40% occur in residential areas? In fact, 24% of those incidents happen in driveways. That's a number we want to see decrease, and so does Chevrolet. Thanks to innovations and advancements in vehicle safety, Chevrolet is keeping families safe, especially with the new 2018 Chevrolet Equinox.

Chevrolet Keeps Families Safe with the new 2018 Chevrolet Equinox

A standard feature you'll see in many new cars is the Rearview Camera; however, Chevy has taken it to the next level with the Surround Vision feature in the new Equinox crossover. Instead of relying on one set of eyes to see what's happening around the car before backing out, the 2018 Equinox provides a full 360-degree vision, which is shown on the infotainment display for easy viewing.

Chevrolet Keeps Families Safe with the new 2018 Chevrolet Equinox

The 2018 Chevrolet Equinox Surround Vision uses four cameras to complete the 360-degree view. The technology combines the powers of the Rear Vision Camera, a camera that lies in the front grille, and two cameras that sit under each side mirror. When the Equinox is put into reverse by the driver, the display will show both the bird's eye view of the car and the Rear Vision view. This means you'll be able to see what's surrounding your vehicle on each side and what's directly behind your vehicle, complete with alerts when you're getting close to an object.

The 2018 Equinox and Chevrolet is well equipped to keep families safe with features like:
  • Surround Vision
  • Forward Collision Alert with Following Distance Indicator
  • Low-Speed Forward Automatic Braking
  • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
  • Rear Seat Reminder
  • Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
Ready to check the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox out in person?
