Deer Season Driving Tips

BAY CITY, Mich., –– During this time of year we see a substantial increase in deer related car accidents as hunting season gets underway and deer breeding season peaks in November. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, rural areas and roads with a speed limit of 55 MPH or higher are most likely to be the scene for deadly deer crashes. It's important to stay aware no matter what road you are on, and with a few simple deer season driving tips you can avoid becoming another deer-crash statistic.

Deer Season Driving Tips

1. Deer are generally most active during dusk and dawn hours, so be alert during your morning and evening commutes to and from work and home.

2. Deer usually travel in groups, so where there is one, there will likely be more. If you see a deer make sure to slow down, and keep an eye out for more since they will most likely be nearby. If one deer crosses the road in front of you, watch for others who may be following behind it.

3. Staying alert, contstantly scnning the road, and utilizing your high beams when there is no oncoming traffic can help you spot a deer that may be lurking near the side of the road. If you see any illuminated eyes or dark shadows, slow down and be prepared to stop.   Be especially cautious when passing hedges, treelines or foliage.

4. One of the worst, and most dangerous, things you can do to avoid hitting a deer is swerve. It may be your natural reflex but chances are, you will end up hitting another vehicle, tree, or other object which can be a more serious collision than hitting the deer. The best thing you can do is to brake firmly, stay in your lane, and hold the steering wheel steady until you come to a controlled stop.

5. If you do get into an accident with a deer, make sure to turn on your emergency flashers and pull over to the side of the road so that other vehicles can see you. Stay in your vehicle, and never approach the deer.

6. Last but not least, remember that in your Chevrolet vehicle, you can press the OnStar button for assistance in any type of situation.

We want all of our friends and neighbors to stay safe this season as deer activity nears its peak with our deer season driving tips. If you want the peace of mind knowing your vehicle will protect you through any season, come see us to learn more about all of the extensive safety systems that General Motors has to offer. If you have unfortunately hit a deer, and need collision service, we can help fix the damage and get you back on the road in no time. You can ensure your car runs safe by taking care of routine maintenance. We would be happy to take care of all your auto service needs.

Graff Gives Back to the Delta College Possible Dream Program through A Chocolate Affair

BAY CITY, Mich.––Halloween has passed, but we're still talking about chocolate. Although it's not the wrapped Halloween variety we're discussing, it's the chocolate-based fundraising event held in Sagniaw to benefit the Possible Dream Program at Delta College. This program is centered around making students dreams happen through opportunities they never thought possible for themselves. We're all about raising money for local organizations that do wonderful things in our community and that stand for great causes. We'd like you to join us in raising money as Graff Gives Back to the Delta College Possible Dream Program through A Chocolate Affair!

Graff Gives Back to the Delta College Possible Dream Program through A Chocolate Affair

The Delta College Possible Dream Program promotes cultural awareness, academic achievement, and higher education to academically promising students who are at risk due to socioeconomic challenges. There are around one hundred middle school students from the Bay, Midland, and Saginaw counties who are selected for the program each year by self and peer nominations. Delta College aims to assist with the college admission process including financial aid, exposing students to higher education culture, provide STEM focused programming, test prep, study skill workshops, and so much more! The Chocolate Affair event is what provides the funding for all the aforementioned.

During the month of November, there are a few things you can do with Graff Bay City that'll help benefit the Delta College Possible Dream Program and it's fundraising event, A Chocolate Affair. You can stop in for auto service or purchase a car, at our dealership throughout the month of November and a portion of your costs will go to A Chocolate Affair. For each vehicle serviced, Graff Bay City will donate $.25, and for each vehicle purchased, Graff Bay City will donate $10.

Whether it's a simple oil change, wiper blade installation, or tire rotation or a more complex auto service that you need, we'd be happy to take care of it for you and donate to A Chocolate Affair. We're also here to help you find the car of your dreams that meets your needs and budget! You can start shopping online, or stop by for a test drive. Again, each car purchased is worth a $10 donation to the Delta College Possible Dream Program. Save a little time and schedule online, or give us a call to set up your appointment.
