Chevrolet’s Silverado Gained Maximum Performance With A New Air Intake System

Chevrolet’s Silverado Gained Maximum Performance With A New Air Intake System

BAY CITY, Mich. -- Chevrolet knew they wanted to get more from the engine of the Silverado HD. By working on the air intake with many challenging real-world driving conditions, Chevrolet found a way to get the Silverado performing better than before. Chevrolet’s Silverado gained maximum performance with a new air intake system. The new air intake system provides dry cool air to the Silverado engine during any kind of weather.

How does the air intake system help?

The new air intake system provides 60 percent of the air to the diesel engine of the Silverado HD. With the new system the air provided to the engine is closer to the temperature of the outside air, which is much cooler than the air under the hood. Cooler air helps the engine maintain full power and speed even while the truck is trailering in tough weather conditions.

Dry and clean air also helps the Silverado HD diesel engine. The air intake system includes an air/water separator that provides combustion-enhancing dry air for the engine to get maximum performance. In the system the air enters a special air filter chamber that specially separates the humidity from the air before it is sent to the engine.

What makes the air intake system so successful?

To have the amount of success from the air filtering system, it is specially designed on top of the hood of the Silverado. The hood scoop is what provides the 60 percent of the air intake. There is also a ram-air effect that occurs when the Silverado HD is driving at highway speeds, this helps pack more air into the engine through the front fenders and pulls an additional 40 percent of air.

By providing cooler, dryer air to the engine, Chevrolet’s Silverado gained maximum performance with a new air intake system. After testing the Silverado in weather conditions from light rain to monsoon like conditions, from light snow to wind driven hail, the Silverado HD’s new air intake system has successfully enhanced the performance of the diesel engine.
